The costume symbolizing ‘Earth’ has been chosen by Fijians through a poll conducted to select the national dress to be worn by Miss World Fiji contestant Caireen Erbsleben.

The costume was selected through a sms poll amongst four designs themed around portraying the climate changes of Fiji, namely Earth, Fire, Water and Wind.

The ‘Earth’ dress would be worn by the contestant at the 63rd Miss World pageant to be held in September in Indonesia.

The costume created by renowned Fijian designer Aisea Konrote would have masi, black pearls, sea shells and a trail of magi magi.

The designer said that this was his very first design for an international competition, and he chose to use masi and magi magi in the creation so that the evening gown has an element of pageantry and at the same time would be showing the roots and treasures of Fiji, according to a Fiji Broadcasting Corporation report.

Miss world Fiji spokesperson Morika Hunter said 70 percent of all text votes were in favor of the ‘Earth’ costume, which is expected to be ready within three weeks time.

At the 62nd Miss World pageant held in Mongolia last year, Fiji opened ‘Dances of the World’, which represented best costume for Miss World.
