Although new influx of digital innovations and marketing opportunities has opened a new platform for fashion designers to display their collections and interact with global consumers, emerging fashion designers still focus on fashion weeks to connect themselves with different cultures from all over the world.

According to several emerging fashion designers, fashion week gives designers the opportunity to showcase their collections to a global audience of press, retailers, stylists and industry influencers, which also include positive media coverage.

In an interview with fibre2fashion, Guyana-based fashion designer Felicia Persuad said, “Fashion weeks are truly hubs of creativity, commerce and inspiration.”

“With roughly 300 shows over the course of week in New York City, there is a great support in the fashion community for new designers with large ideas to have a moment to shine and propel themselves in the press and retail community,” she adds.

Felicia Persuad, the founder of Bela Criacao fashion line, will be displaying her new collection at New York in the upcoming Nolcha Fashion Week.

Saudi Arabian fashion designer Laila Wazna says, “Fashion weeks create a platform for emerging designers to connect themselves with international platform and to learn the art of blending cultures.”

The prominent Middle Eastern designer presented her latest collections in New York at the Couture Fashion Week.

“As a fashion designer from Hong Kong, we are directly and indirectly influenced by both Chinese cultural styles and European fashion taste. Fashion weeks help us to enhance our fashion perspective,” says emerging fashion designer Mountain Yam.

Mountain Yam presented his label ‘Mountain Yam’ and ‘112 Mountain Yam’ to an international audience during the recently concluded Hong Kong Fashion Week.

According to New York-based fashion designer Mariana Valentina, “Local fashion weeks are very important in order to create the buzz one needs for the fashion industry.”

“I think that whoever is sitting in the front row of any fashion show is very important in terms of media coverage for that designer – whether it is an important celebrity, socialite, editor or retailer,” she concludes.

Mariana Valentina will be participating in the Nolcha Fashion Week to present the latest collection for her label.
