Curtains come down on 58th edition of Madrid fashion week

The 58th edition of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Madrid 2013 (MBFWM) concluded recently with the same glamour and fervor as the earlier editions, with designers presenting their collections for the upcoming Spring/Summer 2014.

At the five-day fashion soiree, renowned designers showcased their creations on the Mercedes-Benz and Bertha-Benz runway in Madrid.

Argentine designer Roberto Torreta, who celebrated 30 years in the fashion industry, opened the fashion week with a collection inspired by mosaic influences, which included day dresses, sarong skirts, functional pants, sophisticated tops and short jackets, made from crepe silk, chiffon, taffeta, and soft satins, all in the color palette of red oxblood, blue, silver, black and terracotta brown.

This year’s EGO young designer award once again went to Valencian designer Pepa Salazar who presented a more mature collection incorporating various cultures and fashions of the world.

The highlight of the fashion week was Spanish designer Amaya Arzuaga’s Spring/Summer 2014 collection of dresses made from crepe silk, viscose, organza, silk and linen, all inspired by a game of contrasts between day and night, bats and butterflies, as well as light and darkness.

Catalan designer Sita Murt’s creations were inspired by the 1920’s era. The designer’s entire collection based on white, included crop tops, shorts, skirts, and palazzo pants—all having splashes of neon yellow, pastel hues and dusty amethyst to break the monotony.

Fashion house MANEMANE’s collection displayed summery dresses in wool, cotton and linen with simple and straight silhouettes for Spring/Summer 2014.

The fashion week also included a special showcase of three Peruvian designers who got the opportunity to present their collections on the fourth day.
