Marco Zanini is new creative director of Schiaparelli

Marco Zanini, the Milan-born designer and former creative director of fashion label Rochas, has been recruited to helm the creative reins of the once-fabled couture house Schiaparelli.

With the primary aim to revive the iconic brand’s faded-glory, the newly appointed creative director will head both ready-to-wear as well as couture design sections of the label.

Zanini, who has earlier worked with Versace and Dolce & Gabbana, will debut his first collection for the brand during Paris Couture Week, which is scheduled to take place from January 20 to 23, 2014.

“My mission is to make the name of Schiaparelli resound in both the present and the future,” said Marco Zanini in a press release.

“The emotional link to this project is very strong for me and reflective of my admiration for the intelligent and innovative personality of Elsa Schiaparelli. Through her designs she was able to anticipate the trends of her time but with a relevance to daily living, approaching creativity from a different point of view, one which is still significant today. My wish is to revive the incredible aesthetic of this iconic Couture house,” he added.

The long-dormant fashion label Schiaparelli, which had shutdown in the year 1954, was founded by the late Italian designer Elsa Schiaparelli, who is still remembered for her exotic couture designs and knitwear.

Born to an Italian father and Swedish mother, Marco Zanini has been helming Rochas since 2009. The fashion talent is now replaced by designer Alessandro Dell’Acqua.
