Christopher Kane bags Scottish Designer of the Year Award

Christopher Kane, the famous fashion designer from Scotland, bagged the coveted Designer of the Year Award at the just held eighth edition of Scottish Fashion Awards in London.

The 31-year-old London Fashion Week participant, who received the title for two years in a row, was honoured for his outstanding contribution to the Scottish fashion industry.

Celebrated French fashion house Chanel was awarded with this year’s International Designer of the Year title for using traditional Scottish fabrics in its ‘Métiers D’Art Paris-Edinburgh’ collection.

The Glasgow School of Art alumnus Pam Hogg scooped up the prestigious Creative Excellence award for her signature 1980’s inspired skin-tight punk fashion creations and Louise Gray collected the Scottish Innovator of the Year trophy for her distinctive looks.

Harris Tweed Hebrides, the woven knitwear specialist, was honoured with the Scottish Ambassador of the Year award and the Scottish Textile Designer of the Year was given to the London’s Royal College of Art graduate Alice Palmer.

Scottish Young Designer of the Year title was picked up by designer Jennifer Morris for her innovative luxury ready-to-wear collections and the Scottish Communicator of the Year was presented to the editor-in-chief of the biannual fashion magazine ‘The Gentlewoman’, Penny Martin, at the ceremony which was hosted by style icon Laura Whitmore

Commenting on the awards, the Chairman, Dr. Tessa Hartmann, said “The Scottish Fashion Awards are now a globally recognised event which acknowledges the finest fashion design, creative and textile talents we have in Scotland and indeed working around the world. It’s incredible to think how much the event has grown in just eight years and we’re very proud this evening to celebrate the achievements of all the nominees in this magnificent building - Dover House.”
