Due to be held in the City of Tshwane, in South Africa, the annual event, organized by the continent’s leading fashion authority Africa Fashion International (AFI), will feature more than 20 runway shows displaying trans-seasonal lines.

Designers like Taibo Bacar ( the winner of the 2012 Designer of the Year – AFI Africa Fashion Awards), Mille Collines, Mina Evans, Duaba Serwa, Sheria Ngowi, Mustafa Hassanali, David Tlale, Marianne Fassler and Thula Sindi will showcase their avant-garde creations at this year’s show.

In addition to the runway shows, the event will also include a retail element tagged as Africa Fashion Trade Expo (AFTE), which will offer designers the opportunity to engage in business-to-business networking with the media and buyers, as well as business-to-consumer sales directly to the public.

Speaking on MBFW Africa, the AFI executive chairperson, Ms. Precious Moloi-Motsepe, said, “MBFW Africa is the pinnacle of African fashion and the event serves as the gateway between African designers and the global fashion community to engage and promote the local industry.”

Started around five years ago, the African Fashion International serves as a platform for bringing in designers from the entire continent to the forefront. The event offers direct access to the designers to domestic and international markets.
