Lagos Fashion and Design Week shows S/S 2014 lines

An array of bright and colourful Spring/Summer 2014 collections, created by a bevy of young and seasoned Nigerian designers, were showcased at the just concluded Lagos Fashion and Design Week.

Nigerian label House of Marie, owned by Joan Ibuzo, featured a spectacular collection of feather detailed embellished dresses with floral hemlines and some leathery ensembles, while fashion brand Amede’s 1960s-inspired ‘Efuru Heritage’ line celebrated African heritage through its hand-dyed girly chiffon, pique and aso-oke made creations in peach, mustard and green tones.

Port-Harcourt-based label Beatrice Black Atari presented its latest ready-to-wear womenswear line which included clothing made from a variety of soft, flowing fabrics. The range showcased floor length skirts, knee-length pants and dresses with asymmetrical hemlines.

Designer Mai Atafo staged a very dramatic catwalk presentation by making women wear men’s clothes at the event. The heavy on print collection highlighted ankara and floral shirts, ties, bow ties in green, orange, white, blue, cream and camel colours as well as lime, orange and blue hued blazers paired with white pants.

Women’s contemporary fashion brand Wana Sambo displayed its modernity mixed with arts collection tagged as The Voyage of Mademoiselle Adanna. The ready-to-wear line was a delightful amalgamation of feminine and empowering pieces like dresses, skirts, pants, anoraks, jackets and blouses.

Ada Mgbudem, the prolific Nigerian designer behind the luxury label Ella & Gabby, presented the latest pieces from her Autumn/Winter 2013’s Tropical Sophistication line. Based on a vibrant palette of black, tan, green, pink and red, the exotic separates included trousers, skirts and tops adorned with beading and the label’s signature embellishments at GTBank Lagos Fashion & Design Week.
