Rare collectibles, straight from the abode of late Italian fashion designer and Coco Chanel contemporary Elsa Schiaparelli, are set to go under the hammer at London’s famous auction house Christie’s.

Slated to take place on January 23, 2014, the event titled The Personal Collection of Elsa Schiaparelli will feature more than 180 objects, including fashion creations, from the personal collections of the couturier.

Among the major attractions of the auction will be the famed violet coloured François Lesage embroidered silk blouse from Schiaparelli’s Astrologie collection (1939) and an intricately beaded waistcoat with ‘Bucking Bronco’ beadwork, inspired from her 1940’s Texas trip.

The other to-be-auctioned pieces will include pink wool and ice blue crêpe bolero jackets with jet bead trims, and a yellow linen blouse, replete with beadwork and black and white floral trims.

Also, two 20th century Hammamet robes and a large collection of oriental robes, as well as an assortment of North African, Chinese, Ottoman and Persian costumes will also be auctioned at the event.

In addition to the designer’s personal wardrobe and self-designed pieces, the event will also put furniture and decorative items like three Aubusson tapestries, made from wool, up for sale.

Ahead of the auction, many of the pieces will be displayed from December 6 to 20, 2014 in the auction house’s New York headquarters at Rockefeller Centre

Speaking on the forthcoming event Pat Frost, the director of Christie’s Fashion Department commented, “To have the opportunity of cataloguing the personal wardrobe of Elsa Schiaparelli is, quite simply, a privilege. Not only is the experience like meeting old friends known intimately from books and photographs—such as the ‘Astrologie blouse’—but it is also a peek into the home life of a design icon, where Chinese robes, Ottoman gowns and Persian jackets hung in large numbers in her wardrobe next to couture. Elsa Schiaparelli wore them informally but with a connoisseur’s appreciation of their worth. Many elements indeed are interwoven into her own couture collections.”
