Satya Paul enthralls FICCI Young Ladies with 'The Saree'

‘The Saree is the only dress that takes the shape of the woman who wears it’. To discuss the brand’s long standing love affair with the Saree, Satya Paul hosted the Young Ladies FICCI organization (YFLO) for an afternoon of coffee and conversation.

The enterprising set of ladies interacted with the brand’s management and creative team that consisted of Sanjay Kapoor, MD at Genesis Colors, Sujata Assomull Sippy, Fashion Commentator and Brand Consultant and Satya Paul’s fashion director, Masaba Gupta.

Describing the brand’s journey over the last few decades, Mr. Kapoor spoke about the big and small changes that led to Satya Paul becoming a household name. Currently, the brand retails at over 35 locations in India and abroad.

This was followed by Sujata Assomull Sippy’s talk on the Satya Paul Saree as a fashion icon. Ms. Sippy discussed the brand’s innovations such as the trouser Saree (2002), the Churidaar Saree (2005), the Hexivaram (2009) and the more recent Suspender Saree (2013). She concluded by adding that “It is versatility, ultimately, that will ensure the Saree’s survival for generations to come”

What followed was a styling session with Masaba Gupta as she suggested variations of the Saree and how one could pair them up with different accessories. She went on to talk about different body types and ideal prints and fabrics that suit each of them.

Garima Jain, Chairperson at YFLO Delhi, appreciated the novel idea of draping one’s Saree over a pair of leggings as opposed to a petticoat while the other members appreciated the pre-stitched versions that were on display. The event concluded with the members of YFLO exploring the archival Saree innovations by Satya Paul and picking out their favorites.

The ‘Trouser’ Saree (AW’02): Hand painted fabric was draped over structured trousers to ensure comfort for the wearer. Textile fabrications were that of confident brush strokes  in order to compliment the modern drape

The ‘Hexivaram’ Saree (Bridal Collection, 2009): This collection took inspiration from the ornate Kanjivarams of South India, which were recreated through high-quality digital prints on fine silks

The ‘Churidaar’ Saree (AW’10):  The Saree was divided into an embellished churidaar with a pre-pleated fall. Perfect for an active wedding calendar, the churidaar Saree became an ideal outfit for cocktail  evenings

The ‘Suspender’ Saree (AW’13): The idea behind the Suspender Saree is to celebrate the brand’s ideal muse – mysterious, bold, flirtatious, fun, opinionated, and comfortable in her skin. Divided palazzos of the Suspender Saree eases movement and the unstitched pallu can be styled as a stole.
