Kuala Lumpur Fashion Weekend highlights British fashion

Once again, British fashion was at its best at the recently concluded third season of Kuala Lumpur Fashion Weekend, which showcased an array of Autumn/Winter 2013 collections from popular UK fashion brands.
 
A joint initiative of the Malaysian Government and the United Kingdom Trade and Investment (UKTI), the event aims to promote the country as a vibrant duty-free shopping destination and attract new luxury and lifestyle brands so as to make Malaysia a leading retail distribution hub within the region.
 
British fashion label Burton Menswear London, which is set to open its first three concept stores in the country in December, featured a very stylish contemporary collection made from a variety of fabrics. Replete with both deconstructed and slim fits, the label presented suits, jackets, shirts, denim wear, knitwear, jeans and socks.
 
Local designers, under the brand Karyaneka, highlighted the traditional Malaysian weaving and embroidery techniques through their batik and songket fabric made formal, casual and ethnic designs. 
 
Held in conjunction with the year-end 1Malaysia Mega Sale Carnival 2013 (1MMSC 2013), the event also saw participation of leading international labels like Dorothy Perkins, Miss Selfridge, Clarks, Storm London, Warehouse, Marks & Spencer, Bhs, Jane Norman, Blue Inc, Accessorize, Paul Smith Junior, Young Versace, Junior Gaultier, Young Hugo Boss, Ferrari Junior, Little Marc Jacobs and French Connection Kids.
 
Apart from the traditional runway shows, the soiree also hosted KL Alta Moda, which exclusively caters to the high society fashion lovers and serious fashion buyers. The event showcased bespoke tailored creations from the country’s Lord’s Tailor and an exquisite couture show from renowned British fashion designer Zandra Rhodes.
