Fashion industry is one of those industries which are taking centre stage globally, however, only a few countries contribute to this industry in a major sense, while others are still facing paucity or are in a phase of advancement. The Vietnamese fashion industry is amongst the ones entering the development phase.

Evidently, Vietnam is significantly emerging as a fashion hub with hosting several fashion shows and ramp walks each year, and there are a few Vietnamese fashion designers who have catapulted the Vietnamese fashion industry towards recognition at home and also on the world stage.

Several Vietnamese designers have made attempts at launching personalized brands or opening outlets, but most of them have been unsuccessful either due to limited and unstable material supply, underdeveloped marketing skills, improper packaging, limited supporting industry, and a preference for global brands among consumers.

However, there are a few designers who have managed to mark their presence at home and on world fashion scene.

Nguyen Cong Tri, an expert in combining traditional techniques with modern cutting-edge technology, is the first Vietnamese designer who got an opportunity to showcase his work at the prestigious London Fashion Week (LFW). Mr. Tri has also launched two high-end product brands running successfully even in the domestic market. The designer recently unveiled his ‘Thank you Saigon’ collection which tells the story of Ho Chi Minh City.

Designer Hoang Minh Ha, the winner of the first season of Project Runway Vietnam 2013, a reality show adapted from the original US fashion design contest, had an opportunity to present his work at renowned Tiffany’s Fashion Week in Paris last September, and he was also the sole Vietnamese designer to make it to a wool fashion show to mark 40 years of Vietnam-Australia diplomatic relations this year.

Two of the most renowned fashion labels of the nation—Cong Khanh  and Minh Hanh—recently  showcased their designs at the ‘Angles of Italy’ fashion show, held at the Italian Embassy of Vietnam, to mark the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-Italy diplomatic relations.

Through the unrelenting efforts by burgeoning designers of the country, some of whom are slowly attaining success in the international market, Vietnamese fashion industry is gradually marching ahead and gaining recognition.
