Hong Kong gears up to host Asia's top fashion events

Two highly regarded events for the Asian fashion industry, HKTDC Hong Kong Fashion Week for Fall/Winter and HKTDC World Boutique, Hong Kong, organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), will be staged on 13 – 16 January 2014 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, showcasing the creativity and the latest collections of fashion brands and design talents from local and international market.

Throughout the fair period, nearly 30 fashion parades will be staged. On the opening day of the fairs, the highlighted Hong Kong Fashion Extravaganza features collections of world renowned designers including Amaya Arzuaga based in Madrid, Calla Haynes based in Paris, Henry Lau based in Hong Kong, and also Masha Ma presented by W Hotels Worldwide, who is based in Paris and Shanghai.

Amongst over 600 international and local acclaimed fashion brands and designers participating in World Boutique, Hong Kong, world renowned Vivienne Westwood, 2%, it and Moiselle will showcase their unique creativity and craftsmanship at various fashion parades.

Dianthus D’kangala from Angola, with a brand focus on men’s suits of classic character from Angola; Dorian Ho, who has been expanding from high-end eveningwear line to design specialty uniforms for various industries including airlines, banks, hotels etc; HOMANZ which offers ladies’ handbag in Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and the USA; Ken So who will present his latest wedding gowns sparkling with Swarovski crystals; and Pascal Piveteau, the expert in leather and leather-stretch from France and many more, are spotlighting their latest collections at the events. There are 165 international designers from 13 countries and regions taking part in the International Fashion Designers Showcase.

Young designers are also ready to show international buyers their creativity. To cultivate and promote a new generation of fashion design talent for the local garment and fashion industry, the Hong Kong Young Fashion Designers’ Contest 2014, Footwear Design Competition Hong Kong 2014 organised by The Federation of Hong Kong Footwear Ltd and co-organised by HKTDC, and Knitwear Symphony 2014 organised by the Knitwear Innovation and Design Society will gather young local designers to present their innovative designs.

Organised by Hong Kong-based Redress, the EcoChic Design Award, a sustainable fashion design competition inspiring emerging fashion designers in Asia to create mainstream clothing with minimal waste, takes place on 15 January.

Taking advantage of Hong Kong's position as one of the fashion capitals of the world, various local and overseas fashion brands choose to launch their new products or look for collaborations here, as well as build their brand image in Asia.

A large variety of these products designed by local and global designers will be showcased at various Brands Collections Shows, Designers Collection Shows and International Fashion on Parade sessions. Hong Kong Fashion Week and World Boutique are ideal platforms for designers and brands to reach out to the Chinese mainland market and other international markets.

The fairs offer a variety of seminars on fashion and design trends. Speakers include Vilaslava Petrova, Head of content, APAC, WGSN, representatives of Peclers Paris, Fashion Extravaganza designers Calla Haynes, Henry Lau and Masha Ma, together with designers Eddie Lau, Veronique Leroy, Susanna Soo. Fashion writer Janice Wong will also be speaking to visitors during the fair.
