After Michael Kors, Diane von Fürstenberg and bridalwear queen Vera Wang, the highly talented American fashion designer Alexander Wang is the latest to opt for an off-site venue to showcase his collection at the forthcoming calendar of New York Fashion Week (NYFW).

The 30-year-old Taiwanese-born designer, who also is the current creative head of French fashion house Balenciaga, will feature his Fall-Winter 2014 line at Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn Navy Yard on February 8, 2014.

Before Wang, the three leading American fashion designers, Vera Wang, Kors and Fürstenberg, have also chosen different venues, other than their usual favourite one in New York’s Lincoln Center, for staging their shows at the upcoming bi-annual event.

In addition to the industry stalwarts’ choice of new venues for their catwalk shows, the coming season of NYFW, which is set to take place from February 6 to 13, 2014, is undergoing some major changes to make the event less crowded and more cost effective for the designers.

IMG Fashion, the organizer of the event that had become increasingly crowded and expensive over the last two decades, is revamping the prestigious do by introducing new state-of-the-art venues and a tighter guest list.

To cut down the cost of staging catwalk shows, the firm plans to reduce the rents in some of the spaces at the Lincoln Centre, which this year will feature parades from NYFW regulars like Monique Lhuillier, Tory Burch, Jill Stuart, Lela Rose, Milly, Nanette Lepore, Nicole Miller and BCBG.
