The Phoenix Art Museum of Arizona is going to be the only West Coast destination for the international touring exhibit ‘Hollywood Costume’.

With a primary aim to celebrate the role of costumes in American movies, the multimedia exhibition is scheduled to arrive at the venue on March 26, 2014.

The display will feature hundreds of the world’s most iconic costumes selected from a century of filmmaking, many of which have never been publicly displayed or seen beyond the secure walls of studio archives.

Slated to run through July 6, 2014, the exhibit will include rare pieces worn by the characters from films like ‘The Wizard of Oz’, ‘My Fair Lady’, ‘Superman’, ‘Titanic’, ‘Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince’ and ‘Dark Knight Rises’.

Some of the major attractions of the upcoming display is a gray and black houndstooth skirt and jacket set as well as an 18th century-inspired gown, both donned by actress Glenn Close in her films ‘102 Dalmatians’ and ‘Dangerous Liaisons’.

The exhibit was originally organized by London’s Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) in October 2012. Considered as one of the most successful exhibitions of the British museum till date, the display included items sourced from museums, motion picture studios, costume houses and private individuals from all over the world.

Some of the major highlights of the exhibit were Judy Garland’s gingham pinafore in ‘The Wizard of Oz’, the black dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’, Sharon Stone’s racy white number from ‘Basic Instinct’, Marilyn Monroe’s white cocktail dress from ‘Some Like It Hot’ and Daniel Radcliffe’s Gryffindor uniform as seen in the ‘Harry Potter’ movie series.
