More than 55 emerging designers from nearly 12 countries such as Poland, Germany, United Kingdom and Ukraine are gearing up to showcase their avant-garde lines at the international young fashion designers’ competition Habitus Baltija 2014.

Slated to be held on April 5, 2014, in the Latvian capital city of Riga, the event, which solely aims to promote the discovery of new talents, will be conducted as part of the Baltic region’s leading international trade fair Baltic Fashion & Textile RIGA 2014.

To be judged by an acclaimed jury comprised of the European Institute of Design in Rome Professor Giovanni Otonello, and famous designers like Peter Ingversens (Denmark), Paul Marchant (France) and Lara Aranjo (Italy), the contest serves as a platform to foster the professionalism of young fashion designers and stimulate their creative potential by facilitating the exchange of ideas between the contestants and fashion industry professionals.

Fashion design students from Estonian Academy of Arts (Estonia), Vilnius Academy of Arts (Lithuania) and Cracow School of Art and Fashion Design (Poland), along with young individual designers like Iryna Mikhailovich (UK), Alisa Krivchenya (Belarus) and Lasma Antonova (Denmark) will present their latest collections at the contest.

Scheduled to take place from April 4 to 6, 2013, the Baltic Fashion & Textile RIGA 2014 will be divided into three sections—Raw materials and Production equipment, Clothing and Accessories (which would display the latest apparel industry trends and services) and Recycled clothing (which will highlight issues related to sustainable consumption and recycling).

Co-hosted by the organisers of the Lithuanian expo Baltic Textile + Leather ‘BT 1’ and the textile industry associations of Latvia and Lithuania, the Baltic Fashion & Textile is organized twice a year, alternately in Riga (spring) and in the Lithuanian capital city of Vilnius (autumn).
