A collection of eight elegant pink, white, salmon, and cream-colored wedding dresses designed by Iowa State University senior Whitney Rorah took the top honor Saturday at The Fashion Show 2014. “Orlov Endue Bridal 2014” designed “ByWhitney” is a collection of wedding dresses that Rorah started last fall in her senior design studio class taught by Eulanda Sanders, the Donna R. Danielson Professor in Textiles and Clothing.

whitneys-gowns4 “Her wedding dresses feature intricate details such as corsetry and hand embellishments such as beading embroidery, hand embroidery, ruffles, ruching, and hand-cut flower appliques,” Sanders said. “Whitney met with industry mentors through this process and developed cost and pricing sheets for each dress in the line.”

Rorah won the $1,000 Best in Show award at Iowa State’s 32nd annual fashion show, held Saturday night at C.Y. Stephens Auditorium. The win came three weeks after her line of wedding dresses was featured at Kansas City Fashion Week.

Iowa State’s fashion show is one of the largest student-produced and promoted fashion shows in the nation. A $25,000 gift from Lora and Russ Talbot doubled that top award for this year’s fashion show, and created an endowment to ensure that the award is financed on a perpetual basis.

Colin Behr, an Iowa State senior, was announced Saturday as the winner of the $5,000 Ruth Glock Memorial Scholarship and Todd Snyder Internship.

Behr is pursuing a career in footwear and apparel design. He’s interned at New Balance in the Boston area, and has studied footwear at the London College of Fashion. His award is sponsored by Snyder, an Iowa State alumnus who has been nominated for the top design award in the fashion industry.
