More than 20 Nicaraguan fashion designers and companies are currently undergoing a specialized training programme, designed to boost the Central American country’s export volumes to international markets and the untapped potential of its fashion industry.

Supported by the European Union (EU) and the Association of Producers and Exporters of Nicaragua (APEN), the ongoing diploma project titled ‘Specialization in International Trade and Industry of Fashion’ aims to develop the desired business management sector competencies and skills among the participating trainees.

Slated to run till June 27, 2014, the three-month-long inaugural edition of the educational programme will train people within the entire value chain, including small workshop owners, fabric suppliers, designers, consultants, marketers, entrepreneurs and skilled professionals in the fashion clothing and accessory industries.

Organized in association with the Exporters Association (Adex) of Peru, the course, which has been primarily designed to achieve greater economic benefits and employment generation, is divided into four modules. The mentors of the training course are the Peruvian embroiderer Paul Phillip Evans and some well-known international specialists from the fields of textiles, garments and fashion accessories.
