In its effort to encourage the development of fashion brands, the Indonesian Ministry of Trade, in association with the Femina Group, organized a two-day workshop on ‘Fashion Branding: Indonesian Fashion Brand Development Efforts’ in Jakarta last month.

The workshop was held as a part of a series of events to be held ahead of the Jakarta Fashion Week 2014-15 scheduled to take place in November 2014.

Nus Nuzulia Issac, Director General of National Export Development, said the workshop was aimed at providing insight and knowledge to the designers about Indonesian fashion, so that they can improve product competitiveness through the creation and strengthening of local brands.

The workshop provided information on how to determine the development of an effective marketing strategy, primarily through creation of a brand, Ms. Issac said in an official statement.

Development of the Indonesian fashion industry requires strategic efforts that prioritize product marketing in order to capture the local, Asian and global markets. In this regard, the steps taken by the Ministry of Trade aims to increase the understanding of the market for fashion players and expand their business networking in the fashion industry, and effectively promote their brands both at home and abroad.

In marketing their products, fashion designers must be able to determine effective promotion strategies, including the strategy of development of brand in order to expand their markets.

At the workshop, Bette Bondo from Istituto Marangoni imparted knowledge about how to build a brand, especially of fashion products, so as to become a leading brand from being non-existent in the international fashion world.

According to the data from Statistics Indonesia, the value of exports of Indonesian fashion products reached US$ 11.78 billion in 2013. Of this, apparel products amounted to $7.71 billion, followed by footwear with $3.86 billion, jewelry $200 million and watches $2 million.
