Mughal era & yesteryear movies inspire PBCW in Karachi

Talented Pakistani wedding fashion designers showcased their exquisite lines of heavily embellished vibrant bridal wear at the just held eighth edition of Pantene Bridal Couture Week (PBCW) in Karachi.

Designer Nomi Ansari highlighted a very traditional style bridal range named as Ishq Collection on the opening day of the three-day-long event. Based on several varying shades of red, the ensembles were peppered with chatta-patti, gotta and maroori work.

Drawing inspiration from yesteryear’s movies based on royal families, designer Zaheer Abbas created his Jashne Janaan collection. Using rich tones of regal blue, green, pink and ivory, the line included angrakhas, Anarkali dresses, straight shirts and dupattas.

Designer Somal Halepoto chose to showcase her bejewelled bridalwear range Ronak at the soiree and Uzma Baber opted to feature pieces for all the important rituals of a traditional Pakistani wedding such as shararas, yellow mehndi dresses with motifs and sequined dupatta with marrori and gota work.

Rani Emaan presented her Jewel of the Nile collection, decorated with kora and dabka embroidery, resham cut dana, tila, pearl and precious stones. Based on a palette of red, maroon, gold, coral, green and nude hues, the featured ensembles were crafted from chiffon, kundan, zari, banarsi, jamawaar and chamois.

Faraz Manan blended both eastern and western style sensibilities in his Istanbul range. Adorned with kamdani and chikankari work on netted fabrics, the metallic and grey hued line included sequined shirts, kurtas, blouses, loose kaftans, straight pants green jumpsuits, jackets and loose fitted gowns.

Nida Azwer harked back to the loose silhouettes of the Mughal era for her latest catwalk presentation titled The Kothari Parade II Collection. Embellished with resham, zardozi and gotta work, the red, rust, navy blue, turquoise, purple and grey toned line was crafted from a variety of fabrics such as silk, masuri, brocade and net.
