Famous luxury department store chain Barneys New York has roped in the well-known American professional basketball player Russell Westbrook to be a part of a multi-designer collaborative venture.

The 25-year-old California native will offer his sartorial inputs for a capsule male fashion collection, to be designed by an impressive list of menswear labels, such as Marcelo Burlon, Naked and Famous, Want Les Essentiels, Selima Optique, Del Toro, Globe Trotter and Nike’s Jordan brand.

Slated to be available from July, 2014 onwards at all Barneys’ stores and online, the range will include an array of sportswear, denim and leatherwear pieces as well as smart accessories.

According to WWD, the line, which would have its own hangtags like Westbrook XO Barneys New York and Westbrook Exclusively Ours Barneys New York, will be updated with seasonal releases in the coming months.

Founded in 1923, the American luxury chain Barneys New York specializes in a variety of high-end fashion and home accessories from labels like Yves Saint Laurent, Barbour and Bettanin & Venturi.

Known for his unique boldly coloured and vibrantly patterned sartorial choices, Russell Westbrook currently plays for the Oklahoma City Thunder of the National Basketball Association.
