Gaurang Shah, the designer known for his expertise in traditional handlooms and weaves crafted designs, will feature a folklore inspired collection titled Chitrasena at the Lakme fashion Week’s Autumn/Winter 2014 calendar.

Slated to be staged on August 22nd, 2014, the catwalk showcase will highlight a harmonious blend of 16th century temple art and works of the 21st century modern artists.

Reviving the ancient korvai weaving technique of kanchipuram, each of the apparels from the collection, which is based in military shades of blue, green, grey and brown alongside brighter specks of yellow, pink and orange, will narrate an Indian mythological story embroidered in zardosi and badla.

Woven in flowing Afghani silhouettes, the matka silk and maheshwari-khadi made pieces include Ghaghras, Anarkalis, Ghararas, Anghrakhas, Ijarpants, dupattas and sarees featuring motifs of garuda, rudraksh, hamsa, shikarga, sher, bhagha, haathi, morni and shikariare.

Indian actress Taapsee Pannu will walk as showstopper for Gaurang Shah’s show wearing a modern texture enhanced dress, which was painstakingly created over a period of six months at the designer’s atelier.

The Delhi-born actress says in a statement, “I was anxiously waiting for a chance to walk for him. I follow his collections and i have done lot of photo shoots for his line of hand-woven saris and outfits. I love his innovations in Lehengas, anarkalis which are outstanding.”

“They are very intricate and have great details. I also wore lot of his saris. This will be really special moment for me as I am walking for someone who I admire. The way he conducts his shows also speaks volumes about his idea of fashion. And, his collections give me a royal feeling,” she adds.

Starting today, Lakme Fashion Week will run till August 24, 2014.
