For the very first time since the day of its inception, the runway of ongoing Lakme fashion Week staged a kidswear showcase, organized in collaboration with the London-based toy store giant Hamleys and the makers of popular toy car Hot Wheels and fashion doll Barbie.

Designed for little boys between the ages of 6 and 12 years, the Hot Wheels presentation featured an array of funky casualwear. Themed as ‘The boy in all of us’ and ‘Pit crew’, the range included stylish bomber jackets, T-shirts, denims, check shirts, shorts, caps and gloves adorned with Hot Wheels’ logo, chequered flags and badges.

Stressing on the brand’s message ‘With Barbie, Anything is possible’, the pink heavy girls’ line displayed looks under themes- Fab Icon, Sweet Socialite and Pink is the New Black. Replete with playful and glamorous elements, the featured partwear and casualwear pieces were floral dresses, blouses, skirts and pants based in a palette of pastel, hot pink and denim blue hues.

New Delhi’s National Institute of Fashion Technology grad Urvashi Joneja showcased a very east-meets-west style womenswear collection title Guarded at the event. Inspired from armours, the raw silk, georgette, net, mesh and crepe made line was decorated with geometrically stylised brick prints.

Created in wearable silhouettes, the line depicted human emotions through intricate detailing like drapes for flow, structure for strength, prints for ‘masks’ and braiding for overlapping emotions. Based on ethereal shades of red, burnt orange, royal purple, black, pristine white and sand gold, the catwalk range included skirts, dresses, tops, tunics, jackets and saris.

Frou Frou, owned by designer Archana Rao, celebrated the most favoured Japanese beverage ‘tea’ through its latest Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014 show entitled Teaism. The range was decorated with images of doilies and vintage china sets. Based on a palette of dull yellow and blush pink alongside an occasional sprinkle of teal, dark blue and classic black, the most standout pieces were transparent capes, opaque shirts and body-con dresses with flower appliqués.
