The American fashion designer Tracy Reese has become the inaugural designer ambassador of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) supported Washable Fashion Initiative, a program that aims to promote washable fashion within the industry and educate designers about the benefits of using machine washable fabrics in their designs.

Created in partnership with the laundry detergent brand Tide, the 50-year-old women’s ready-to-wear clothing and home fashion specialist has recently debuted her maiden collection made from completely machine washable materials like cotton, acrylic, wool, polyamide, polyurethane, elastane, polyester, rayon and spandex.

Part of the designer’s latest fall 2014 collection, the 8-piece Tracy Reese Washable Fashion for Tide line includes an array of fashion-forward separates such as cosy cable-knit sweaters, metallic cargo pants as well as stylish jacquard skirts and dresses.

Reese said in a statement, “It’s always been important for me to create garments for real women, which is why this has been such a fun project for me. It has been a great experience working with the CFDA and Tide on the Washable Fashion Initiative.”

“It gave me a chance to prove something that I already know, which is that you can create beautiful designer garments that can be cared for easily at home. This is just a natural extension of my work as a designer. Ultimately what I’ve taken away from this is that washable garments can be fashionable. I will continue to design with washable fabrics to make my clothing more accessible to women,” she adds.

Karen Klei Schlosser, the Associate Marketing Director of Tide manufacturer Procter & Gamble’s North American Fabric Care, also said, “Tracy Reese has been an unbelievable partner since day one serving as an advocate for washable fashion among her peers and customers,”

“After a collaborative partnership, we’re excited to see her designs now available for purchase, and are confident her customers will appreciate the ease with which these washable looks can be cared for at home using Tide,” she adds.

The line is currently available for sale at TracyReese.com and the American retail stores including Anthropologie and Nordstrom where Tracy Reese designs are being sold.
The Washable Fashion Initiative encourages the use of machine washable fabrics and yarns which ultimately makes designer fashion easier for consumers to care for their favourite looks at home.

Founded in 1996, the Tracy Reese brand is known for timeless wearable looks with art-inspired prints, modern textures and different varieties of fabrics.

Headquartered in Cincinnati, Ohio, Procter & Gamble is an American multinational consumer goods company.(PB)
