To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the evergreen Hollywood classic 'The Wizard of Oz', the Warner Bros. Consumer Products and the US-based Tonner Doll Company have roped in several American designers to re-create the clothes and overall looks of the film’s leading ladies.

Names like Betsey Johnson, Anna Sui, Donna Karan, BCBG Max Azria, Hervé Leger, Carmen Marc Valvo and Marc Jacobs have created haute couture designs for an eclectic collection of some 20 dolls, inspired from the movie’s primary characters Dorothy Gale, Glinda the Good Witch and the Wicked Witch of the West.

Currently exhibited at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), the exhibits include a New York’s windy weather inspired blue gingham windswept Chris Benz-designed outfit and a Trina Turk-created rainbow patch adorned gingham pinafore peplum jumpsuit the film’s protagonist Dorothy.

Clothing label Jenny Packham has designed a high-fashioned, modern innovative dress for the Wicked Witch and the hit television series Scandal’s costumer Lyn Paolo and star Kerry Washington have designed an eclectic ball gown for the broom riding menace.

In addition to the above mentioned names, Reem Acra, Erickson Beamon, Sue Wong, Carlos Falchi, Douglas Hannant, Byron Lars, Charlotte Ronson, Colleen Atwood and Ruth Myers have also contributed their own designs to the collaborative venture.

Karen McTier, the Executive Vice President, Domestic Licensing and Worldwide Marketing in Warner Bros. Consumer Products said in a statement, “From the Ruby Slippers to the gilded crown, the iconic styles in The Wizard of Oz have inspired generations. We are honored and excited to showcase how haute couture meets classic film, as these world-renowned designers re-imagine the look and feel of The Wizard of Oz's three leading ladies.”

The CEO and doll artist of the Tonner Doll Company, Robert Tonner, also expressed his joy over the new venture-“We are positively delighted with the dolls – they are brilliant! The designers have done astounding work. Inventive, captivating and quite simply bewitching, this collection is unlike anything you have ever seen – these iconic dolls will leave you spellbound!”

After the FIT exhibit, the 22-inch dolls would later be displayed at the upscale department store Bloomingdale’s 59th Street flagship in New York City from September 12 to October 9, 2014 for additional public viewing.

Available for bidding on eBay until September 14, 2014, proceeds from the auction of these haute couture dolls will benefit the ‘There's No Place Like Home’ campaign run by the international non-profit Christian housing organization Habitat for Humanity, which is devoted to build simple, safe and affordable housing for poverty-stricken people.
