13th Maredimoda to encourage quality European clothing

The upcoming 13th edition of the international trade fair dedicated to lingerie and beachwear textiles and accessories, Maredimoda, will aim to encourage ethically produced quality European products.

Slated to take place from November 11 to 13, 2014 at Palais des Festivals, Cannes, the event will help educate consumers about the negative impacts of outsourcing low cost clothing manufactured under unethical conditions in different parts of the world.

The President of Maredimoda, Marco Borioli, said in a statement, “Our main objective has always consisted in educating our customers to make a quality, ethical and responsible choice. Our mission is clear and known. We shall go on protecting, enhancing and promoting the European quality which, more and more, is standing out as an absolute value inside an ordinary and standardized universe.”

“By now, stores all over the world are full of valueless imported products, made in unthinkable conditions. Today indeed mass-production has caused a market saturation with any kind of low-cost products whose value we do not even understand,” he further explains.

“Based on their quite negative or at least no longer profitable experiences, more and more medium- and large-sized companies in the beachwear and underwear sectors have decided to go back to buy European textiles and if needed, they are having their garments made in Northern Africa or Eastern Europe,” he described the reasons behind the gradual shift towards European textiles for producing innerwear and swimwear.

Borioli also stated that the event will serve as a meeting place for both semi-finished and finished clothing items, “Maredimoda shall act as a “quality zipper” between the world of semi-finished products and garment-making and the world of outsourcing; by connecting the two worlds we will offer retailers a top-class supply chain that will represent both a quality trademark and a protected designation of origin.”

The soiree will see latest arrays of Spring/Summer 2016 collections from more than a hundred European companies and a delegation of fast-fashion garment makers from the Euro-Mediterranean area.

In addition to the vast display of clothing, a talent scouting contest involving students from over one hundred fashion schools from all over Europe, focused on beachwear, lingerie and corsetry, will also be held.

Also talks on topics ranging from ‘Evolution in textile and clothing gets across the most innovative instruments: from technology up to marketing and communication’ and ‘A new approach to design and marketing strategy’ will be conducted on the sidelines of lingerie, beach and swim wear showcases.

The panel of speakers will include the likes of Maurizia Botti, the fashion consultant, textile innovation expert and lecturer at the Politecnico di Milano (Politecnico University of Milan), Peter Stampfli (CEO at Human Solutions GmbH, a German company in 3D body scanning 3D), Paola Visentin (Marketing and Communication Manager at RFID Global, a leading company in the microchip business with textile and fashion applications), and Francesca Spinetta (the Editor in Chief– Intima France – Network Dessous).
