Nike unveils new ODI kit for Indian Cricket team

The American sportswear giant Nike has recently unveiled the new technology-enhanced One Day International (ODI) uniform kit for the Indian Cricket team.

The official apparel sponsor of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has developed the blue coloured jerseys and bottoms using recycled plastic bottles and lightweight fabric Dri-Fit Prime Lite.

Based on data collected from athlete-driven insights and their movement patterns on the field, the kit features a unique comfort enhancing four-way stretch fabric that allows the body to move naturally.

Replete with laser ventilation holes and breathable engineered ventilation to aid cooling during the matches, the uniforms are made using the Nike Dri-FIT technology and Nike Pro Baselayer that help regulate the player’s body temperature through increased venting and breathability.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, captain of the Indian Cricket team, said in a statement, “The new Team India uniform is light, comfortable and packed with innovation to help minimize distractions on the field of play — and that’s critical when millimeters make a difference between a game-winning inning or wicket.”

Sanjay Patel, honorary secretary of BCCI, also spoke about the new kit, “We are pleased that Nike has used its global expertise to adopt innovative technologies from different sports and craft them to the specific needs of Team India players.”

The Indian cricket team will sport the new Nike designed uniform from January 18, 2015 onwards during its forthcoming matches to be played in Australia.

Founded in 1964, based near Beaverton, Oregon, Nike specializes in the designing, marketing and distributing of a wide variety of athletic footwear, apparels, equipment and accessories meant for an expansive range of sports and fitness activities. (PB)
