Sabyasachi Mukherjee to open Lakmé Fashion Week SR15

Indian fashion designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee will open the much-awaited upcoming Lakmé Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2015 calendar, a special season that will celebrate the event’s 15th anniversary.

The 40-year-old Kolkata-based talent, who first showcased at the soiree in 2002, will kick start the commemorative do with an offsite presentation, featuring some of the most popular faces and successful names on the ramp, on March 17, 2015.

The designer expressed his delight over the opportunity in a statement, “Lakmé Fashion Week holds a special place in my journey as a designer other than being my debut platform. Our success stories resonate and have been parallel. It gives me great pleasure to open the season that commemorates 15 years of LFW in India and be a part of this milestone.”

Talking about the curtain raiser in a media release, Saket Dhankar, fashion head at the event’s organiser, IMG Reliance, said, “We chose Sabyasachi, a name that resonates with our platform’s journey and success, spanning over 15 years. We hope to curate an evening that will be remembered for a very long time.”

Known for his exemplary use of Indian textiles and craft traditions in designs, the talented National Institute of Fashion Technology alumnus is largely credited for re-inventing Indian couture globally.

The designer is also an esteemed member of the bi-annual fashion week’s advisory board. His last Winter/Festive showcase at the event was a magnificent royal range, inspired by the limited-edition Lakmé Absolute Royal collection in 2013. (PB)
