UK-based menswear designer James White has won the third instalment of new designers-centric promotional platform European Young Designers Contest, held as part of the just concluded 34th Porto Fashion Week (PFW).

The Falmouth University grad was awarded with the title for his collection #001, which was inspired by ice and its thickness and colour variations.

In addition to the British winner, the event also saw an autumn-winter 2015/2016 line titled Orbit from Portuguese emerging talent and student of Modatex, Carla Pontes as well as a romanticism-inspired couture range from Giuseppe Perri (Accademia Koefia, Italy).

Julia Fraille, 23-year-old French talent from Atelier Chardon Savard, displayed a mountain universe inspired sportswear and urbanwear infused line Hang On at the event, which was organised at PFW’s textile-focused trade fair Modtissimo.

Another participant from Esmod Berlin, Milla Lintilä, highlighted creations inspired from American artist Charles Dellschau’s interpretation of Sonora Aero Club.

Apart from promoting new European fashion talents, the competition also aimed to highlight the design, textile and apparel industries in Portugal, particularly the event’s host city - Oporto. (PB)
