Indian fashion designer Rajesh Pratap Singh will open the Amazon India Fashion Week (AIFW), due to take place from March 25 to 29, 2015 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Known for his use of traditional techniques on contemporary designs, the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) graduate will set the mood for the five-day Autumn/Winter 2015 extravaganza, which will be hosted jointly by Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and online digital platform Amazon.

“The FDCI is honoured to announce Rajesh Pratap Singh as the opening designer for the AIFW-AW’15. His creative genius resonates deeply with the audience and his understated design aesthetic has always been applauded. Singh’s collection will elevate the India Fashion Week and lend a credible voice to the design spectrum,” FDCI president Sunil Sethi said in a statement.

Talking about his opening show, the Delhi-based designer said, “We are looking forward to open the India Fashion Week this year. Amazon’s coming on board would give a much-needed shot in the arm to the industry, this association is bound to further expose designers and craftsmen to the strengths and realities of doing business in the digital world. I am sure that my colleagues in the fraternity would whole-hardheartedly support this partnership, keeping in mind, the boom in the online space.” (PB)
