Mr Fabrio Marangoni of Istituto Marangoni, a leading fashion and design school in Europe, added “Thailand is an Asian fashion powerhouse and has strong future potential for fashion development. Thailand has the raw materials such as leather, jewelry and a flourishing textile and garment industry readily available. The country also manufactures its own unique fabrics including cotton, nylon, rayon and the world famous Thai silk, which made its international high fashion debut in 1948 with the support of the legendary Jim Thompson and Vogue's Edna Woolman Chase.”

The future for Thailand's textile and garment industry

Thailand has a long and illustrious history in the world of international fashion and textiles and everyone involved in the Bangkok Fashion City program is working hard to reinforce this while also aiming to place Bangkok on the map as a fashion destination.

“To ensure success we will work on the continuing professional development of Thailand's textile and garment industry to strengthen the country's entire fashion industry from the grass roots up” explained Mr Witayasuk.

Additionally, the Bangkok Fashion City program has extended its scope to the realms of international cooperation, with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with France, one of the world's leading fashion nations.

Further T-DET initiatives focus on the replacement of existing machinery with modern, efficient technology and the training of human resources in utilising the modern equipment. The BFC members and committee have also recently proposed the establishment of a Textile and Garment Centre of Excellence equipped with the most up-to-date technology which would be made available to local manufacturers who could be charged on a per-use basis.

Bangkok Fashion City Project is a special project under the supervision of Thailand's Ministry of Industry. The main purpose of this project is to provide an opportunity for the international market to sample the work of leading Thai brands. Textile and Garment in Efficiency and Technology is just one of the Bangkok Fashion City initiatives.
