Hot USTA under 16 tourney sees girls wearing 'pink'

The heat is near oppressive and the girls, about 190 of them slog it out at under 16's USTA tournament in Virginia Beach Tennis & Country Club.

Logging their kits including tennis rackets, bags and jugs, pony tailed girls get all dressed for the big occasion. And what is the fashion they wear?

A Nike wear consisting slit skirt with shorts underneath has been a craze here.

The antiperspirant Dri-fit fabric made skirt helps players maintain their cool by putting away sweat droplets from the skin that get evaporated from out side.

Whether it touches the sense and sensibilities of the youngsters, the fact that Virginia Beach Country Club pro shop ran out of the $52 skirts off its racks, must surely be appreciated.

Everyone today wants to dress a La Sharapova style, and her image seems to overbear the minds of these promising players out in their teens.

Even Anna Kournikova is favorite among the girls, though she is no more on the tennis scene currently, speaking for her exploits on and off the courts.

Skirts in baby blue, skimpy top exposing a bare midriff, with slits or a white one pleated, made appearance alongwith funner fabrics such as mesh.

Beyond dress, wearing wristbands in all hues do pop up with the ever-popular anklet, too.

What if we don't speak of another accessory, shoes?

It's $120 adidas or the Serena shoes at $100 that are in vogue.

But a discerning one, may also go for an $80 lime-green sneakers singing, “I don't really like Serena, but I like these.”

That's fashion for you from Virginia tennis courts!
