Agreement against illegal imports - ABIT

1 min read

In an attempt to reverse the situation of illegal trade, which has been strongly affecting the sector, ABIT and the Internal Revenue Service signed an agreement on February 28 that foresees technical cooperation between the two institutions to identify fiscal fraud in the importation and exportation of textile and apparel products during inspections at Brazilian ports and airports.

The agreement will remain in effect for an undetermined period of time. ABIT considers the partnership a way to intensify the combat against illegal imports.

Textile trade includes an enormous variety of products and different classifications, which requires the inspectors to have technical knowledge pertinent to the textile engineering area.

The agreement will permit specialists, under the coordination of ABIT, to elaborate expert reports about the merchandise whenever requested by the Internal Revenue, thus facilitating and speeding up the inspection process.
