AIFW establishes Amsterdam as a potential fashion destination

The third edition of Amsterdam International Fashion Week took away all remaining doubt: fashion and business thrive in Amsterdam. In only 12 months (three editions), the fresh fashion platform has attracted the attention of directional press, buyers and professionals from the region and beyond. AIFW looks safely on course to become an inspiring addition to the international fashion calendar.

“We were happy to receive so much interest from abroad” said AIFW director Steve te Pas: “Amsterdam has a lot more in store, so we look forward to seeing everyone back in January”.

The substantial catwalk schedule illustrated the growing level of home-grown talent (such as Percy Irausquin, Francisco van Benthum, Monique van Heist and Angelos Bratis), as well as Amsterdam's suitability as a venue for shows by established international brands (e.g., Blue Blood, Mansharey, Elle and Marlies Dekkers).

Trade events showed energy and dynamism: District establishes itself as THE international platform for New Luxury whilst Modefabriek proves its ongoing strength.

Illustrating the balance between commerce and inspiration, both the business and cultural programs showed impressive growth. The newly launched AFBX (Amsterdam Fashion Business Exchange) made its first steps towards strengthening the ties between Amsterdam and the international fashion business community. The inspiration program brought the city to life with fashion exhibitions, lectures and parties.

The next edition of AIFW is scheduled for the last week of January, 2006. Final dates will be published soon at www.amsterdamfashionweek.com .
