Online Sourcing Project receives warm response

The Online Sourcing Project (OSP), the internet-based matchmaking platform linking global buyers with exhibitors at Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair, has achieved the mission it has set out for. Since its inception in January, OSP, a sub-section on bangkokgemsfair, has become a popular new virtual venue where buyers and sellers interact to develop business relationship.

Thai Gem & Jewelry Traders Association (TGJTA), the host of OSP, was so far encouraged by the records made on the on-line business-to-business service. There has been more than 1,600 visits to OSP webpage with over 460 visitors have registered.

That has led to more than 30 keen trade enquiries with specific requirement for goods and services to Bangkok Gems exhibitors. Trade enquiries came virtually from around the world -- from the US, Canada, the UK, the Netherlands, Russia, Iran, Egypt, UAE, Pakistan, India, Singapore, Australia and New Zealand, to name some.

Their enquiries were wide-ranging including fine jewelry, precious stones, loose diamonds, semi-precious gemstones, synthetic stones, cultured pearls, jewelry watches and jewelry making tools. The data OSP webpage has been constantly refreshed. It saw more than 218 exhibitors updating their information and over 200 visitors revised their data.

TGJTA has planned to expand the data base on OSP webpage beyond its existing contents which include an effective search engine and to introduce additional services to better serve the jewel trade members. Furthermore, TGJTA hopes to use the OSP platform to build on the face-to-face business partnership opportunities rendered at the twice-a-year Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair.

Currently, the OSP webpage primarily contains trade information, the range of goods and services in 60 categories which over 1,000 Bangkok Gems exhibitors have to offer. "Trade members told us that they like the OSP because they can interact among themselves from anywhere in the world without time constraints with just a click away. It saves time, cost and hassle...a win-win solution," said Vichai Assarasakorn, chairman of OSP committee.
