The jewelry manufacturers of Chanthaburi and traders from Tak Provinces have planned to combine their capabilities in order to become more competitive and carve a niche in the international market.

Respective representatives of the two provinces would together form a cluster of gem and jewellery traders and support each others' strong points. Chumporn Polrak, Governor of Tak, has met Chanthaburi representatives and sketched an outline of the proposed partnership.

Insiders reveal that Mae Sot, the border district adjoining Myanmar, which imports gemstones from across the globe, would supply to Chanthaburi, country's leading district in manufacturing jewelry.

Experts believe if this plan is implemented successfully, both the provinces would make profits in the near future.

Tak industrial council has employed expert gemologists to ensure the quality remains first-class and is planning to set up a training centre. This effort is backed by Thiti Ekboonyuen, Chairman of the gem and jewellery association of Chanthaburi.

According to Therdkiat Chinsoranant, Mae Sot municipal Mayor, this attempt would improve the province's position as a special local administrative zone.
