Swiss watches have created a niche in the global market and its popularity has been increasing worldwide. This fact is quite evident in the recent statistical reports of October 2007.
Swiss watch exports again showed two-digit growth in October. With an increase of 12.0 percent, the monthly result registered 1.685 billion francs. This level exceeds by far the best months achieved previously by Swiss watch manufacturers. Over the first ten months of the year, the value stands at12.7 billion francs, an increase of 16.3 percent.
Steel watches were an important catalyst of growth in value terms. Gold timepieces also supported the trend, but to a lesser extent. The total number of pieces exported developed very favourably, virtually effacing September's decline. Here too, steel exerted a major influence. Precious metals however registered a slight downturn in the number of units. Since the beginning of the year, volumes have grown by 3.0 percent.
