Tokyo based personal care products maker Kao Corporation is going to launch MeguRhythm Steam Thermo Power Pad (general medical device), which provides effective warmth to the lower back and abdomen, throughout Japan on October 8, 2005.

Thermo Pad Generates Steam to Steadily Warm Deeply into the Body
The living environment is changing due to rapid aging, diffusion of business machines, deployment of air conditioners, and the stress in society. These changes cause an increase in the number of people who experience various physical disorders including lower back pain, stiff shoulders, gastrointestinal disorders, and fatigue.

To alleviate such physical discomfort, Kao will launch the MeguRhythm Steam Thermo Power Pad. This daily-use health care product has been approved as a general medical device in Japan.

The newly developed sheet heating element generates steam which feels comfortable on the body. The surface temperature of the product is maintained at approximately 40 degrees Celsius over five hours to warm deeply into the body. The product improves blood circulation to relieve pain and fatigue.

This is the first move for Kao to enter the field of medical devices. The Company aims to further cultivate the health care market, which has great potential.
