Interested students can go com for official contest rules and a registration form. The contest starts on March 3, 2008. Participants are required to submit a completed entry form and a photo of themselves wearing their duct tape prom formalwear and other documents required by the contest rules. All must be received by June 11, 2008.

During the contest period, all accepted entries, including those from previous years, can be viewed. Entries are posted in the order they are received.

The 10 finalist couples will be chosen by a panel of judges. Entries will be judged on five criteria: workmanship, originality, use of colors, accessories and quantity of duct tape used.

Then, it's up to the public's vote. The top 10 finalists will be narrowed down to first, second and third place winners during a period of online voting. Voting will open on June 13, 2008, and end on June 29, 2008. Winners will be announced on or around July 1, 2008.

In 2007, high school students Adrienne Beiler, Salisbury, Pa, and Zac Cupler, Grantsville, Md., outdid more than 180 couples from 43 states and three Canadian provinces to be named the 2007 Duck brand duct tape Stuck at Prom Contest winners.

The duo attended the Salisbury-Elk Lick High School prom in formalwear that took them close to a year to make, including more than 40 rolls of duct tape to create. Beiler was convinced to participate in the contest by her home economics teachers, who suggested Beiler could use her love of sewing to fashion the ensembles.

Public vote determined Beiler and Cupler as the winning couple during a two-week online voting period, with each finalist couple promoting themselves, using everything from flyers to parades to the Web, to earn votes. Approximately 51,000 votes were submitted for all finalists, determining Beiler and Cupler as the winning couple.

The couple used brown, pink, orange, green and yellow duct tape to create the flowery Southern belle dress and traditional suit. Weighing in at 25 pounds, Beiler's three-piece dress included a hoop skirt with multiple layers of colored duct tape and textured flowers.

Cupler's brown suit and hot pink shirt complemented his date's ensemble. Both were accessorized to complete the look of the outfits Cupler sported a hat and cane, while Beiler carried a duct taped parasol and handbag.

When they arrived at the prom, the reactions were those of excitement and curiosity. "Everyone loved our outfits and thought they were amazing," said Beiler. "They couldn't believe the outfits were really made with duct tape," added Cupler.

Duck brand duct tape is available nationally at mass merchandise, hardware and craft retailers.
