Sales at Bon-Ton Stores registers degrowth

The Bon-Ton Stores Inc announced comparable store sales for the four weeks ended March 1, 2008 decreased 7.2% compared to the prior year period. Total sales for the four weeks decreased 8.7% to $217.0 million compared to $237.6 million for the prior year period.

Tony Buccina, Vice Chairman and President – Merchandising, commented, “February sales, while up against tough comparisons to last year, reflect continued weakness in traffic trends during a tough macro-economic environment. Categories that performed well included furniture, hard home, children's and women's large size sportswear.

The weakest performing categories were missy moderate sportswear, intimate apparel, men's and accessories. We continue to manage inventory levels conservatively based on current sales trends and are looking for a better read on spring sales in March."

Financial results for the fourth quarter and fiscal 2007 are scheduled to be released Tuesday, March 11, 2008. The Company's quarterly conference call to discuss fourth quarter and fiscal 2007 financial results is scheduled to be broadcast live over the internet on March 11, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. eastern time.
