“Ravage” by Raj Shroff and Neetu Gupta explores a strong concept – The Tree of Life, for their autumn-winter collection 2008.
The strength and beauty of their inspiration comes through in the grand designs where the duo has experienced the deeper meaning with self evaluation and great understanding.
They have complemented the vast and rich heritage by infusing Indian sensibilities in western garments. The colour schemes were reflective of the barks and branches of the tree as it would appear in different light at different times of the day and night.
A palette of rich browns, earthy greens, deep reds and rusts with metallic gold reproduces the magical quality of the Tree Of Life. The fabrics include jersey, brocades, net and felt.
The textures that were created by the designers were a translation of their thoughts through cording, rushing, appliqués, sequins etc.
The silhouettes ranged from fitted to circular, straight to floor lengths. The garments in the collection were a heady mix of skirts, long dresses, short coats, layered dresses, mid length and maxi dresses with elements of the empire line waists and cowl wraps.
Cutwork was done immaculately to reveal new tones of colour while heavy and light weight fabrics were combined to skillfully do the balancing act.
An innovative concept was displayed in the contrasting fronts and backs of some dresses applying the contrasts of basic metallics with rough textures of the tree.
Raj shroff and Neetu Gupta's collection epitomises their views, emotions and original style.
