Tim A. Peterman, an experienced media executive whose career has focused on building, acquiring and operating interactive media and commerce businesses, has been named president of The J. Peterman Company.

Peterman will succeed his father and founder of the company, John Peterman, in the chief operating role. John Peterman will remain active in the company, and become the chairman.

Tim Peterman, 40, joins the family business after serving six years at The E.W. Scripps Company, a diversified media enterprise based in Cincinnati.

In his role as senior vice president of corporate development for Scripps, Peterman helped guide the company's expanding presence in the Internet commerce market place.

Peterman will leave Scripps to join The J. Peterman Company on April 1.

"Tim is uniquely qualified to help us continue to build The J. Peterman Company into an innovative brand that's able to leverage the power and utility that the Internet makes possible for our customers," said John Peterman. "We couldn't be more fortunate to have him on board."

Peterman will oversee one of the country's most recognized, specialty retail brands. The J. Peterman Company offers a growing range of interesting and unique products, including men's and women's apparel, home furnishings, one-of-a-kind, kitchen-ware, antiques and more.

The company's commerce Web site and catalogue are universally known for their creative and entertaining writing style, as well as being sources for interesting and factual information about and related to the products the company sells. The company's recently launched content site, Peterman's Eye is described as "a daily brief for curious minds."
