May '08
The ladies in the word over and the ornament crazy have something to cheer.

Coir Board, Government of India is poised for achieving a break through in this regard as part of Board's initiatives under Research, innovation and up-gradation of the Coir Industry.

Ms.Verena Schaetzlein, Designer, Berlin, a German expert in ornament designing is now in Coir Board's Central Coir Research Institute, Kalavoor, Alleppey demonstrating the art of making attractive ornaments using coir fibre.

She is imparting training for 53 women from different NGOs and Societies. The training programme is for the period from 15.04.2008 to 28.04.2008.

Over 40 items of products of attractive look has been made by her within short span of 10 days. The items made by her include chains, bracelets, bangles, earrings, rings etc, Ms Verena Schaetzlein is now engaged in a work shop, inaugurated on by Shri.A.C.Jose, Chairman, Coir Board, in which 40 women are being trained in this craft.

They are picking up the work fast with their nimble fingers. Ms Verena Schaetzlein is of the opinion that the items will be well accepted abroad with an attractive packing if publicity is given in the right way.

She has her own suggestions on packing display etc. A trained woman can product ornaments as a part time work after her household chores.

Shri A C Jose, Chairman, Coir Board informed that the Board is planning to extend this development to all coir producing States by giving training to women.
