Footwear exports fetch high revenue

According to Ministry of Industry and Trade (MOIT), the export of high quality footwear enjoyed sharp growth from January to April this year. On the other hand, the demand of low quality shoes reduced during this period.
During the first four months of 2008, footwear industry of Vietnam exported nearly 88 million pairs of sports shoes, a year-on-year rise of 16.7 percent. The export of leather shoes stood at 13.9 million pairs, a sharp fall of 37.4 percent, when compared with same period of 2007.
From January to April this year, the footwear exports fetched approximately US $1.35 billion, showing a growth of 15.7 percent over corresponding period 2007.
Industry insiders believe that, high demand from US and EU markets has increased export volume of high-quality shoes.
