New Zealand helps revive sluggish domestic leather sector

JE Austin Associates Inc of New Zealand has agreed to lend a helping hand to Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PLGMEA) for working out a joint strategy for boosting the leather sector of Pakistan.
Dr Warren Weinstein, Director of JE Ausatin addressed to the Sialkot-based leather garments manufacturers and exporters during a meeting held at PLGMEA on May 16. He stressed that there was a need to develop bench marking, before marketing and R&D could be looked into.
Mr Warren also emphasized on development of indigenous support industry, training of work force on modern lines, leather industry to set an agenda for TDAP and Ministry of Commerce for promotional activities, promotion of Pakistani brands, production partnership to enhance capacity, design specialization, using alternate / modern machinery to save energy and promote social compliance.
Mr Hassan Ali Bhatti, PLGMEA Chairman said in his speech that the leather industry of Pakistan was in dire need of undergoing modernization. It also requires an immediate development of its infrastructure in order to sustain and flourish its business which earns considerable revenue to the country.
