The U.S. Hispanic purchasing power is growing at triple the rate of the overall U.S. population. Key factors accounting for this increase in U.S. Hispanic purchasing power include continued population growth and increasing Hispanic employment and income levels.
As of July 1, 2007, there were 45.5 million Hispanic Americans, representing 15.1% of the total U.S. population, according to recently released U.S. Census Bureau data.
Hispanic Americans are both the largest and fastest-growing minority group in the United States. Between July 2006, and July 2007, the U.S. Hispanic-American population increased by 3.3%.
Nearly half (48%) of the total Hispanic-American population is women. The Latino woman has become a major consumer of beauty trends, products and services in the United States, outpacing her counterparts in many fashion categories. The emerging Latina is a feminine but assertive, prepared, fashionable and professional woman.
According to Steve Sleeper, Executive Director of PBA, "We hope to reach out to Latino beauty professionals and increase awareness about the support PBA offers beauty industry businesses, as well as steward through this emerging market to the mainstream."
