Audiences at the upcoming Couture Fashion Week event in New York City will not only be dazzled by the exquisite fashions on the runway, but also by a roster of world-class entertainers.

The three-day event, to be held September 5, 6 and 7, 2008, will present the latest collections by designers from countries including Romania, Egypt, Turkey, Colombia, Albania and the USA in the Majestic Ballroom of the elegant Westin Times Square Hotel, in the heart of the Big Apple.

One of the performers appearing at Couture Fashion Week will be Alexander Markov who has been hailed by critics and the public as one of the most celebrated virtuoso violinists in the world.

A Gold Medal winner at the Paganini International Violin Competition Mr. Markov has recorded six CDs as well as the DVD of the daunting 24 Paganini Caprices (distributed internationally by Warner) and has performed at many of the world's most prestigious concert venues including Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in New York, Barbican Hall in London and Musikverein in Vienna.

Mr. Markov has performed as a soloist with many celebrated conductors such as Lorin Maazel, Charles Dutoit, Ivan Fischer and Neemi Jarvi as well as with many internationally-acclaimed orchestras including The BBC Philharmonic and Montreal, Philadelphia, Jerusalem, Houston and Budapest Orchestras.

He was featured in the widely acclaimed film The Art of Violin and has also appeared in concert with such luminaries as Martha Argerich. Mr. Markov has performed several times at Couture Fashion Week to enthusiastic audiences.

Alexander Markov has expended his musical creativity far beyond his performances as a classical violin soloist. He composed the crossover epic Rock Concerto with James V. Remington who also designed for him a new, one-of-a-kind six-string electric violin.

The patented electric violin has a unique sound and Markov performs Rock Concerto with some of the finest rock musicians in the music industry, accompanied by an orchestra and chorus.

Combining the most contrasting musical genres - classical and rock - Rock Concerto is a grand musical journey with wide audience appeal and many different moods and characters from dark, powerful and gothic to soulful, playful and humorous.

The concept of the project is to bridge rock and classical audiences and attract more young people to such concerts.

A native of Moscow, Alexander Markov studied violin with his father, acclaimed concert violinist Albert Markov.

By the time he was eight years old he was already appearing as a soloist with orchestras and performing double concertos with his father.

Markov emigrated to the U.S. with his parents and now resides in New York City.
