What if you can change the lives of children in a remote Kenyan village in three hours? On Wednesday, Oct. 15, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Prime Club (511 West 28th Street between 10th and 11th Avenues), international fashion designers will do just that at a benefit to raise money to support a primary school and build a vocational school in the remote village of Mbumbuni, Kenya.

Hosted by Smith Barney, senior vice president Roberta Cherkin, Columbia University professor Michael Preston and DK Grand Safaris managing director, Daniel Kikemu, co-founders of the Cherkin Preston Foundation, and chaired by Jennifer Warren, Barclays Capital project manager, the event will feature sizzling runway presentations by hot international designers:

- Angelo Lambrou, a South African whose couture women's evening wear collections are inspired by African and Mediterranean influences;
- Antonio da Silva, a Portuguese native whose passion for designing can be seen in his Latin and Mediterranean-influenced high fashion, couture and theatrical pieces;
- Kaia Peterka, whose art- and travel-inspired handbags are a favorite of women who want chic, sophisticated styles without sacrificing practicality or function;
- Cleo Moreira, who creates fun cocktail/evening wear for elegant women who seek a creative and differentiated style;
- Nina McLemore, whose fashion and business expertise influences her collections for smart, confident on-the-go women;
- Peoples Pride, whose timeless, audacious and experimental designs are always relevant to the present; and
- Skin Lingerie, whose luxuriously soft loungewear combines chic style with absolute comfort.

Following the runway show will be individual trunk shows by several of the featured designers who will donate 10 percent of the proceeds to the Foundation.

Throughout the evening, attendees can bid on unique African carvings and jewelry in a silent auction while enjoying hors d'oeuvres and wines from Neuman's Catering and Wines of Germany.

"Because secondary school education costs approximately $500 per student - 25 percent of the average annual income for most Kenyans it's often not a viable option.

That's why we decided to build a vocational school for the 450 children in Mbumbuni, where they can be trained in employable trades including carpentry, masonry and tailoring to drive a sustainable economy for their village and beyond," said Preston.

Cherkin added: "We were deeply moved by the need in Mbumbuni and, following discussions with Kenyan NGOs and schools, we, along with Daniel and his wife, Molly Katei created the Foundation to improve these children's lives.

We are grateful to everyone for their generosity in donating their time, products and services to make a difference to these precious Kenyan children, including the aforementioned designers; Prime Club; Wines of Germany; Neuman's Catering, Baldor Specialty Food, Kattia Tan, Peeled Snacks, Rollo Mio, Zingerman's for the food and wine; graphic designers Nina Solomon and Sandy Funatake; Eva Mendez and Najeh Tourchio for hair and makeup; photographers Michel Berda, Ernie Green, Johnny Rodriguez, Kelly Newnum; and PR consultants MeeLin Nakata and Amy Juaristi."
