The Westside fashion show with designers Narendra Kumar, Vivek Karunakaran and Vivek Kumar was a great mix of exciting men's and women's wear for Spring/Summer 2009 at Lakme Fashion Week.

Under the unique initiative the "Designer Development Programme" for prêt wear was launched by Westside and designers Vivek Karunakaran and Vivek Kumar were selected from the last season of Lakme Fashion Week's "Emerging Designers'" category.

Along with their mentor Narendra Kumar the pair has created exclusive designer prêt for Westside, which will be showcased in select stores across India. The three designers showed collections which were distinctly different and stylishly designed to suit the sartorial requirements of fashionable men and women.

NARENDRA KUMAR:

Narendra Kumar's women's formal wear line was chic and contemporary with colours that were neutral and ideal for corporate formal wear.

Maroon, beige and woody brown along with ivory were designed into sharply cut suits, featuring short constructed jackets and slim trousers, pencil skirts with stylish tops.

Keeping the current trend in mind for suits, Narendra had two button jackets and pinstriped trousers and coats, an elegant black satin jacket, some trendy jeans worn with a cross over cotton blouse and had interesting detailing like a white pleated bib for a striped blouse.

VIVEK KARUNAKARAN:

For the stylish male dresser, Vivek Karunakaran used crisp light fabrics for easy to wear shirts, trousers and a few suits in summer shades of white, blue, black, white and grey inspired by the formal wear collection "Ascot" which was for the busy city executive who wants to dress with style from morn to night.

Slim trousers, lots of linen jackets, drawstring pants, shirts and casual Bermudas; had a lot of subtle detailing like pleated shirt fronts, turn-ups for Bermudas, pin tucked bib shirts, self striped white formal ones, some with very fine blue piping and an unconventional black shirt with white piping on yoke, cuff, collar and placket. It was a comfortable cool line for the man on the move.

VIVEK KUMAR:

It was a mix and match of colours for a casual wear line for women called "ME with Vivek Kumar's SRC" collection in fluid and unique fabrics in colours that ranged from orange to coffee, black, teal and khaki which were all embellished with touches of gold. Drapes and pleats were used cleverly to give the outfits a distinct elegant touch.

The orange jersey pleated dress with belt, the rust printed tunic and black leggings, the draped skirt, the lacey party shift with piping on the hem, the ribbed black raglan sleeve dress, the bubble outfit with side pockets and leotards with draped top; will all make super creations for the trendy young women on the move.
