Following the present American restrictions on Chinese imports, the Ministry of Industry anticipates greater opportunities in footwear exports to the US and Japanese markets in 2006.
Substantial increase is likely in the export quota to the US.
Local exporters of footwear and leather products should keep on strengthening their capability to match with competition from China, Thailand, Indonesia and India, suggested the Ministry. It also indicated that domestic manufacturers should expand their pattern design and not rely on imported raw materials.
