Acne introduces menswear A/W 2008 collection

This season the men's collection have been on separate journeys, inspiration-wise, although they keep the playful and irreverent take on fashion that is so important to Acne. Similarly, our wardrobe concept is in constant focus, allowing the wearer to pick and choose from a palette filled with exotic textures, unusual fabrics and unexpected colours, with the intention of creating a look entirely one's own.

Acne Menswear A/W 2008
The traditional English gentleman on an odyssey in the exotic African savannah, personified in Peter Beard, the great photographer with his 'hunter with a camera for a gun' attitude, has inspired this season's collection. The Acne man has this season set out for the great adventure, lugging his mountaineering boots with him, as well as a couple of heavy wool sweaters for warmth.

The photograph taken before the start of his journey, show him standing at the foot of the mountain, full of expectations, smiling, carefree, unafraid. This is a man that laughs in the face of the bitterly cold Northern winds by wearing a simple vest under his heavy winter coat. He sports a quirky look, with much too short trousers, that flap around the leg when he walks.

He wears his jackets tailored, and revels in a sharp shoulder over an accentuated waist. Just because he can, he wears his socks miss-matched, David Hockney style, and throws a fringed wool necklace over his shirt and suit. He wears a pyjama top under his formal tailored jacket, and loves his heavy square-toed shoes, which he wears with absolutely everything.

That opposites attract him you have no doubt guessed by now, and this love for the unconventional is similarly shown in the textures and fabrics he picks: draping flannels, rigid felts, flowing cashmere and chunky knits worn with structured leathers and flannels. This man is a true explorer, in every sense of the word. Intrepid, gallant and heroic, he takes whatever happens in his stride.
